Desert Southwest
The desert is far and away one of my favorite places to explore. With family and friends I’ve had the privilege of adventuring through the “four corners” states of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. New Mexico’s cliff dwellings are jaw dropping to witness as they tell tales of indigenous peoples past; people who survived in one of the harshest biomes on our planet. Northern Arizona’s canyons will always be mind boggling to me with their staggering lighting, sandstone textures, and extreme geologic historical records. My absolute favorite of the four though are the arches and slot canyons of Utah. I’m proud to say that I’ve hiked every trail in Arches National Park and it is by far the park I know best.
Here are a selection of images from some of my adventures in the desert. With this collection I strove to capture the extreme nature of this environment and share the beauty that is often overlooked due to the struggle that is necessary to see it.
